As a future writer, there are several different career paths that are available to you. Many companies are looking for skilled writers for documents such as reports, job descriptions, and advertising campaigns.  Although a college degree is not required to become a writer, companies often seek individuals with college degrees in the field. In order to better your chances for employment, here are some college degree programs that can help you in your future career.

English

Obtaining a college degree in English is a good start pointing for future writers. As an English major, you will study and learn about fiction, poetry, and the English language. You will also learn how to develop and improve your current writing skills. After graduation, you should be able to seek employment as a staff writer or become a freelance writer.

Journalism

A journalism degree is also another degree option. By getting your degree in journalism, you will learn how to research and deliver a story on current news events and entertainment. You will also be taught how to cover international events such as the Kazakhstan Democracy from different angles. If you enjoy writing about news events, you could land a position as staff reporter for a local or national newspaper.

Technical Writing

Technical writing is a writing field that is becoming more popular. Those in this field are responsible for writing booklets and manuals to help consumers figure out how to use a new product such as a computer or washing machine. In this degree program, you will learn how to use your thinking and writing skills to create documents that are easy for consumers to understand and learn. Companies in the electronics and computer industry actively seek out writers with this knowledge.

Finding the Most Affordable and Trusted Medical School

Once an individual has decided to commit themselves to the health and well-being of other people, the most important factor is deciding on what medical school to attend. For many who desire to attend medical school, the biggest factor to consider is the cost. According to a recent national survey conducted by the “New England Journal of Medicine” the number one reason why many did not apply to medical school was because it was too expensive.

Generally, public universities provide the most affordable medical education in the country, but students must be residents of the institution’s state to qualify for the lowest tuition rates. There are also affordable private institutions that offer medical programs.

Tips for Selecting the Most Affordable School

  • Consider a medical school that reduces the cost of medical education for individuals with income levels below a certain amount.
  • Look for an institution that offers generous scholarship programs that enable many students to complete their education either tuition-free or at a significantly lower rate. Also, look for schools that offer assistance for living expenses.
  • Search for medical schools that enable students to work in on-site clinics or medical facilities while completing their education to help pay for tuition. This will both help make medical education more affordable and provide valuable hands-on experience.

Finding a Trusted Medical School

  • The first aspect to look for is accreditation. A majority of employers will only hire physicians who have graduated from an accredited medical school.
  • Look at the rankings from credible sources, such as the U.S. News Report.
  • Search for schools committed to small class sizes and high faculty-to-student ratios.
  • Consider student success rates that involve graduates pursuing accomplished Physician careers.

Getting a College Scholarship

Though we hear the word “scholarship” a lot when we hear about college, not everyone knows exactly what one is — especially if they are new to the college world in general. Scholarships, in short, are grants awarded to students to help them pay for their education. Unlike college loans, they never have to be paid back — so long as you fulfill the requirements on the scholarship.

Not all scholarships are open to everyone, but there is bound to be a scholarship out there for anyone who wants one. The requirements to be eligable for any particular scholarship are listed on the application; some require that you just submit your information, but many traditionally want you to write an essay about what you will do to put their money to good use. Most scholarships are awarded to a limited number of people — aim to impress so that they will choose you!

Many scholarships are aimed toward groups that are disadvantaged and may not be as able to afford higher education as other groups. For example, a good number of scholarships are dedicated to helping young women get a good education. There are also scholarships for particular ethnic groups, for gay and lesbian students, for students with exceptional academic performances in high school, and many more.

Thanks to the Internet, finding scholarships to match your needs is easier than ever before — there are many scholarship search web sites that will make lists of ones you are eligable for. Once you have that list, all you need to do is apply.

How to Apply for a Loan Online

When you need money fast, you don’t have to wait for the bank to open in order to apply. There are many companies online that have payday loan services that can be accessed online, and it’s really easy to apply. Just follow these steps:

1. Go to the service’s main web page. There will likely be an area where you enter in your name, address, and email address. Then click “Apply.” Keep in mind that there are certain things you need to qualify: you must be 18 years old, you must have some sort of provable income, you must have a checking account that is in good standing (i.e. you haven’t had checks returns or received charges for overdraft in the last month), and you must live in a state that is served by the company.

2. Fill out the application. Once you’ve clicked “Apply,” you’ll be required to enter more information that will help the company determine whether you qualify for the loan.

3. Enter the information and wait for a reply. The best part about applying for short term loans online is it only takes seconds to receive a response on whether you qualify for the loan.

Once the application process is completed and you’ve received confirmation that you qualify, your funds will be deposited directly into your checking account within one to two business days. It’s that easy. After receiving notice that you qualify, be sure to review the terms of the loan before accepting the money. You don’t want to accept if you can’t pay off the loan when it’s due or if the fees associated with the loan are too high.

3 Types of Leadership Classes You Should Enroll In

Leadership and management skills are very important in the business world. These skills can help people, especially managers, motivate others, communicate more effectively and lead a staff.

There are many different types of leadership classes and training available, whether you are in a bachelor degree program or just need some additional skills to help you in your job. Some of the first leadership trainers developed ideas on what motivates employees, as well as the skills business leaders need to have. Most leadership training programs are based on these early theories.

Here is a look at three types of classes that you should consider taking.

Organizational

This type of training will provide potential leaders with effective people and group management skills. One of the main objectives of this type of training is to show leaders how to line up organizational goals with the goals of the individuals working within that organization.

Team

Generally, the skills required to lead a team do not come naturally to most people. This kind of training will give leaders the tools to facilitate collaboration among team members and enhance team performance. Leaders are also taught to encourage consensus, vision and commitment to the team. This training will also provide individuals with the techniques to recognize and appreciate all the experience, knowledge, skills and expertise of each individual team member.

Communication

A leader must have impeccable communication skills, whether it’s interpersonal skills or advanced skills such as public speaking and presentation skills. Effective communication is considered fundamental to being a successful leader.

Online Learning Becoming More Common

American Meteorological Society

Everyone is busy these days. Even young people that are going to college usually have part-time jobs and lead extremely busy lives. Let’s face it, school today isn’t quite what is was even 20 years ago.

Fortunately many learning institutions have taken these busy lifestyles into account as they decide on curriculum. It is not uncommon these days for young people to use online learning to earn college credit. Simply pay for the class, log onto the desired website, and complete the learning as the professor intended. So comprehensive are these online learning classes, which a student may never hear from a professor or set foot in a classroom during the entire class.

Some Majors can be completed entirely online! Take for example a Meteorology Degree. A good share of the television weatherman you see need to have a Meteorology Degree in order to be certified by the American Meteorological Society. A Meteorology degree can be obtained from Mississippi State University, without ever having to set foot in a classroom.

Some of the advantages to these online learning techniques is students don’t have to travel to and from school for just one or two classes. In many cases, students live more than 30 minutes from their college and an hour commute with the price of gas can easily cost several hundred dollars per month and take up 15-20 hours per week.

For many, the convenience of online learning means they can take the course at their own speed, within the comforts of their own home. As technology improves, more of this advanced learning is likely to take place.

Additional Minors in College can be Helpful

In the ever changing job market, it is imperative that young people garner as much experience as they can in multiple areas.

Remember back to those days of a first or second job when someone looked back at you and asked what kind of experience you had? If your answer was babysitting your brothers or not much, it’s pretty easy to decipher why you didn’t get the job.

As college-age students get ready to descend upon colleges across the country this fall, it would be a great idea to have a plan of attack in their back pocket. Most students have one area they’ve decided they want to study. They trudge through snow and rainstorms and ultimately graduate from college with a degree in something. Their intent is to work in that field throughout their lifetime and earn a good living as they meander through life.

What happens if the field they have chosen to study isn’t hiring?

The aforementioned plan of attack means going to college with the idea of getting a major in one area, but also studying other areas, or getting minors in something else. Getting minors in a foreign language or some area of education or computer science could be very helpful.

The more minors you achieve while studying in college, the more ‘experience’ you will have when you encounter the hiring professional. When the question of do you speak a foreign language comes, you will be able to say yes. When the question comes of what kind of computer skills you have comes, you will be able to say, and I got a minor in computers.

Diversify Your Personal Profile by Getting Multiple Majors

Image via Wikipedia

It seems like every good investment takes into account multiple areas in which to invest. As the investments broaden, the chances of taking a hit financially because one area crumbles are lessened because of the wide array of investment choices.

The same can be said of one’s education. The more areas in which a student has studied or has some expertise in, the less likely is the chance for one’s job prospects to crumble if one of their areas of expertise become’s not existent. The idea of obtaining multiple majors while at college is now becoming more popular than ever.

Most college students have one area of choice they would love to work in. That area might be Television Production or Elementary Education. Without knowing what either job may hold in ten or even 20 years, it’s probably a good idea to back up your education with another choice, should the first choice not work out.

The Television Production student might want to pair their first degree with an English degree to have something to fall back on. The Elementary Education student might want to pair their first degree with a Computer Science degree to have something different but equally useful to fall back on. The idea of getting multiple majors is much like that of broadening your personal investment portfolio.

The college years are meant to be fun and exciting as young people try new things. Trying new things all the way to receiving multiple majors might be the best way to make you hirable as a volatile job market fluctuates in the coming years.

How Multiple Majors can Instill Job Security

Who knows what the job market will look like in 20 years. There may be robots doing the jobs of humans, or there may be humans doing the jobs of robots. One thing is for certain, as technology evolves, so will the job market, and those who are prepared on a multitude of levels will have the best chance for success.

If you are of the college age or have kids that are getting ready to go to college, it might be wise to consider working towards Multiple Majors. Getting a major in Elementary Education paired with Computer Science would be a great way to diversify one’s usefulness to society. Who knows what the world of teaching is going to be like in two decades, but you can bet computers are going to be a part of any advanced society.

Students entering college need to be prepared for an extra year of college. Most take that extra year anyway, to ‘find’ themselves and what they want to do. A student with their mind made up, and with a full head of steam, should take only an extra year to complete multiple majors.

Along with the idea of getting multiple degrees, it would be wise to study a foreign language. As the world turns to more of a global trading forum, having the ability to speak and write a second language, could give you the worker, a leg up as we head towards 2031.

The Multiple Majors may cost more in the short term, but the ability to be well-versed in several areas may be the ideal solution to job uncertainty in the future.
